Find out WHY cover of some sort is so important.
A TRUE STORY
I made the decision - I've been a friend of Monty's for a few years now, but it wasn't Monty who advised me to take out ASU, I did that off my own bat because I was in a dangerous industry where deaths were common place!
A dangerous game - I was a steel erector and part of the job was to walk across steel girders at upto 800ft (the height of 1 Canada Sq). So as you can imagine it was a dangerous game and I needed some form of cover for my mortgage payments. Back in 1990 when I took the policy out I set it to pay me £500 cash per month.
I hurt my back - Low and behold in '93 I fell at work and hurt my back. I was off work for over 3 years! Now, here's the good bit. I claimed on the ASU policy and was paid £500 every month for 3 years. That's a total of 18 grand back off the insurers! Now, I did have a bad back but the pain was eased 'cos I knew I was covered.
It gets better - Not my back but the insurance cover because the mortgages rate dropped and the £500 a month went towards some of my bills as well. Double result! Notice I was still getting the full £500, as I set it up like this.
A good policy - So in the 3 years since I first took the policy out, I had paid £35 per month in, about £1250 in total, and got out £18k. Now that's what I call a policy!![]()
Not the end of the story though! ...
Daunting prospect - I opened for business in '96 and being reliant solely on myself was a daunting prospect at first but I had a good business head and was soon the talk of the town. The word soon spread and I was building my empire. Things were looking so good I bought my self a (mid life crisis) motorbike, a fast one! Bet you can see where this story's going?
Crash - I eventually crashed it in '99 and totally wrecked my right arm. I've still got my arm, but it's extremely dead. I can never ever use my right arm again, unless there's some quantum leap in medical science. At 43 I'm resigned to it now. Get on with it or top yourself, that's my attitude.
Back to the beginning - So, back to the ASU insurance. Yep, I claimed again and got paid out the full £18k yet again. Now, over the course of things I've had 36k insurance payments on a 50k mortgage. That insurance alone allowed me to keep a roof over my familys head. I can't even imagine where we would all be without it.
Get ASU - So, another change of career is needed. Hence this website I put together for Monty. If you need a website or any spreadsheet work I'm your man. I'm a whizz with Microsoft Excel. And don't forget, get some ASU cover!
Thought for the day - If you think "it won't happen to me", let me tell you....IT MIGHT! ![]()
Regards,
Ron
